Brooke Burke-Charvet: I Have Thyroid Cancer - UsMagazine.com

Brooke Burke-Charvet was recently diagnosed with having a cancerous nodule on her thyroid gland, the Dancing With the Stars co-host revealed in a video posted on her Modern Mom blog Nov. 8.

After an initial medical test failed to determine if the nodule was cancerous or benign, Burke-Charvet recalled, "I had to go through a whole bunch of additional tests and get second opinions. Long story. I got my results back and they were not good. I need to have thyroid surgery, a thyroidectomy, which means that I am going to have a nice big scar, right here, across my neck."

The actress added, "I don't get to just walk around and pretend like nothing happened or not follow up or not share, because it's going to be pretty much dead center. I didn't want anyone to read about it and get the wrong idea or think that I'm sick, because I'm not."

Despite her diagnosis, the famous brunette says she is feeling better than ever. "That's what's so crazy about this whole thing."

"I never, ever, ever thought I was going to get that phone call with bad news. I guess the truth is I'm always so used to being in control and taking care of everybody . . . and now I find myself in this really out of control situation. Here's the way I see it: I'm going to make a positive out of this negative thing. I am going to be a really good patient and I am going to do everything I need to do. I booked my surgery and it's taken me a couple months to really wrap my head around this."

The Playboy model added, "Now I'm good and I'm ready to deal with it and I'm going to be fine. I feel really, really strong. Doctors say that this is a 'good kind of cancer to have.' That sounds so crazy. But my doctor did tell me that this is a happily ever after ending kind of thing."

The Connecticut native and Baywatch alum David Charvet tied the knot in St. Barts in August 2011. The couple are parents to daughter Rain, 5, and son Shaya, 4. Burke also has two children from her previous marriage to plastic surgeon Garth Fisher, daughters Neriah, 12, and Sierra, 10.

"As crazy as it is, my head is in the right place," Burke-Charvet said, "and it's gonna be good."
